    They will be running a Yamaha designed 4.4L V8 the capacity of which will be increased to 5L....the word is that development of this engine started late last year.

    am I correct in saying that:

    holden = chev based engine
    Ford = Ford based engine
    Nissan = Nissan based engine
    Merc = Merc based engine
    Volvo = Yamaha based engine

    Yes, that's pretty right, but I should say that the "Volvo" engine has been used in a production Volvo.....it's just that Yamaha originally designed the engine for Volvo for their use.
    The next 6 months are going to be very "interesting"...Driver changes, "Evolution" of the new car, Gear Box "issues"....all sorts of stuff going on.

    This is a very complex looking casting. Yamaha are good at that kind of thing.

    what Volvo run a V8? Who makes the gearbox and what issues?
