If you did noyt keep the VK I bet you wish you did. Going for around $100K now. I am kicking myself for not buying one but at the time when they were new would have meant trading my Torana. Had the opportunity to buy a few second hand but did not. Would love to be able to go back.
Those were the days.I sold the VK Group A to buy the most highly optioned VK Calais Director ever made X HDT Special Vehicles, it was the only car Brock ever built with BBS Wheels, also had Imroved output HDT engine, leather scheel seats, brock stereo, electric sunroof, T5G 5 speed gearbox, 3.36 diff etc ...cost $46K new!!, then I had a VL GP A Plus Pack, VN Group A, CV8 Monaro, HSV VZ GTO, Focus RS, AMG C63 etc etc,...just love our cars!
Now Wifey has an Audi S3, & we share the Defender!

One of my best mates owns no.11. Swung many a spanner on it. Some features of Bathurst special only are: electric pump under battery tray circulating oil from the 4sp transmission to oil cooler near radiator, twin thermo fans, cast iron brace for the top of each shock tower (seen when looking from in the wheelarch-normally just pressed metal), a brace running from each shock tower to firewall (looking under bonnet), LARGE reverse air scoop on bonnet, rear wheel arches rubbed inward - look in the boot and you'll know what I mean, big full tank (sorry I forget the vol), the obligatory 9in LSD, sheel racing seats and a number 30 or less on the glovebox lid. These are the only sequentially numbered cobras the you can say are all the same option level and drive line spec. Maybe no 1 had AC&PS - not sure about that rumour. Love to know what the suspension setup is, this one is un molested and 'low km' (sub 50k) and it rides like its on rails. Rock hard and very predictable steering. There were other cobra specific options but the above are only on the first 30. Sits in his shed, driven monthly.

Love your style, if only I had been a bit older in those days and earning decent money, seriously considered the VK HDT but was still an apprentice and would not have been able to afford to live after repayments same with the VL HDT, very nearly traded the SS on a new VL Calais when I was starting to earn a bit more but decided to keep the Torana. Looked at a lot of second hand VKs and VLs from $12k-$20k right up until 2005 but did not make the sacrifices and now regret it. Lucky enough to drive a couple however. Now I have kids so cant afford anything.

    It all takes time!
I see you have an SS Torana,...2 door?
I'd have loved an A9X hatch,..I actually found one (yellow), in original condition, I test drove it, it had a bit of a miss in the engine, so I didn't buy it!...The next person to look bought it, took it to Ian Tate (HDT engine guru),..it was just a minor carby issue,...the price was around $12K!!!,...a big boo boo on my part, the guy that bought it still has it!
Funnily enough, the Defender is the slowest car I've ever owned, but I probably enjoy it more than most,...but now I'm older of course!,...anyway, it's simply impossible to drive fast anywhere these days, so I suppose the joy of owning a very fast powerful car is fading, for me anyway.

Yeah I have an LX SS Hatchback, have had since i was 17, now needs restoring and was just about to start pulling it apart when i was made redundant by BHP so will have to wait until I get another job now.
Had a couple of opportunities to buy A9Xs but generally when I was an apprentice and as had a car (paying off) and a dirt bike could not afford another car at the time.

While we're talking about the ones that got away, when I bought my XR8 Sprint I has the option to buy a rebodied ESP with an interesting history, or to buy #002 VP HSV SV91, supposedly the 1st production car and the sydney motor show car....

Turned down the ESP because I knew I'd end up doing a mountain of miles in it and couldnt bring myself to do it knowing the cars history, said no to the SV91 because the Sprint was a manual.....
