    Title #6 for WHINCUP.

Another first class effort by Redbull today, and well done to Whincup for yet another championship. I have huge respect for his talent but think he is an arrogant tool with no personality. Is he the greatest the sport has ever seen?

After 6 championships he must have some talent. Combined with the most professional team and it's easy to understand why he's always on the podium. T8 don't accept anything less.
I'm not a RBR fan but if the rest of the field wants to beat them they need to raise their game and do it consistently.
I think Mclaughlin in the Volvo is a great talent but today he wins one race and the very next race he is absolutely no where.

I dont like Whincup but he is a great driver, however to call him the best ever seen is a big call. Different racing with different cars and technology, plus $. Vodafone / Red Bull were always going to be top of the pile no matter what just on cars and $ alone. Whincup has never had a bad, sub standard or even average cars like the rest of the drivers and never really earned his stripes like most of the drivers have.
I think if he had he would not be looking at 6 championships yet. If you look at the championship outside the Volvo, most of the competitive cars come from the 888 garage. The team behind 888 have some real talent as did the Vodafone Ford team, the driver is only part of this. If they all had similar cars there would be a few challenging him.
Lowndes on the other hand has the talent but always seems to get screwed over by the team at important stages of the championship and race with biased decisions. He should be a lot closer in the championship. Just look at Bathurst with the short fill to accommodate Whincup and avoid him having to stack. Another 2 seconds of fuel and Lowndes would have made it home and not had issues with the Pepsi Max Falcon and possibly won the race and if not would have been top 3.
I think the touring production car formula was better, maybe not as fast but the cars were more on par.
Whincup will be up there with the greatest, but I would not say the greatest as very different paths.
IMHO Brock is the best ever, due to his driving ability with bad cars, his personality and the way he passed on his knowledge. If he had the same support through his entire career he would have had more Bathurst wins and Championships. You also need to remember the Championship itself was not a huge deal in the 70s & 80s. Drivers like Brock could have won several more championships easily in the limited ATCC days, but by missing rounds to compete overseas in various races like Spa and Le Mans gave the Championship away but still finished second. So not comparing apples with apples as Whincup has competed entire seasons.
I think Van Gisbergen will be one of the greats and said this when I first saw him drive in the Dunlop series, same with Mostert but he seems to have a sub standard car and quite honestly should never got within cooee of winning Bathurst this year, pretty hollow victory with what went on.
It also depends how far you want to go back but some of the greats that did not necessarily have the wins they should but are great drivers none the less and maybe even better due to circumstance:
Brock of course then his protege Lowndes are top of the pile for various reasons. Larry Perkins, Allan Grice, Jim Richards,Dick Johnson, Allan Moffat, The Geoghoen brothers,Bob Jane, etc etc.

    Thumbs up

CraigE, great post, says it all really.
Been following "V8s" in their various forms for years, knew Brock personally, & for sure, like I've said before, Brock at his best would be hard to beat, for a multitude of reasons.
But I do like Jamie. Don't know him at all, but he was once a guest speaker for the HSVOC of Vic, and a nicer, more down to earth guy, you could not meet,...answered every question, including some "curly" ones ya wouldn't hear on TV.
And now that He's "famous", I hear others say he's "arrogant". Well, I simply don't agree with that. Even yesterday, upon becoming the Champion FOR THE SIXTH TIME, all he could say basically was that he was just a cog in the wheel,.....I've NEVER heard him boasting, big noting,..EVER.
Sure, He's in the best team, but so was Brock, Skaife, Johnson, Bowe etc etc, that's just the way it is.
On the basis of the best team, that is not something that applied to Alan Grice,..He had some good victories as a privateer.
    Whatever, I love 'em all.
Can't wait for this afternoon...20 mins to go!

Does Whincup do anything else? You often see Lowndes and most of the other field bugger off and drive other cars here and all over the world. Given what he (jamie) has achieved here in V8's i would think Red bull would have him driving everything .
Brocky was maybe the best all round package Driver/personality but Jim Richards would have to be one of the best Drivers going around. Jim can jump into anything and drive the wheels off it.

It seems Dick Johnson would like to see Jamie compete in other classes.

Courtney definitely had a word or two

I recon they will try hard to change the rules again,as they often do,once one team becomes so dominant.
