Yes, the R32 is a corker. I saw one at the dealership on Saturday. Unfortunately it's more money than I want to spend at the moment :( I am also concerned about fuel price and the GTI at 8l/100 is about all I'm willing to bet. I even considered the TDI sportline but i don't think I can do it.

Actually... I really don't want to get rid of the MINI at all becuase it is an absolute hoot. The only cars I have driven that have been more fun are a couple of Lotuses like the Elan and the Elise.

But, I have a pass at the moment to do this because getting two kids in and out of the back of a 2 seater is a PITA :mad: :mad: Also my wife is getting agitated with driving the defender because it's "too hard to park" :mad:

Oh yeah... interestingly one guy in the US did a direct comparo with the MINI. I think he pretty well summed it up for us too. Don't forget that the Aussie GTI is a 5 not a 3 door.

Before marriage and kids, I had in 1974, a 1970 Dodge Challenger convertible with 426 Hemi and 4 speed manual trans. (rare combination). Luckily I had a Kingswood company car at the time. The Dodge was sacrificed to furniture, freezer,washing machine, and so on. I would love to get it back. This thing is a truly very, very, fast car. Wheelspin at almost any speed, and virtually impossible to drive in the wet, but what a hoot. Fuel? Well, try 8-9 mpg driven like it deserved, and never better than 11-12mpg, and 115 Avgas was necessary, or BP-W 100 Octane with 1 of benzol to 4 of W. What you would run it on today with the severe restrictions on purchase of Avgas, would need some investigation. Not practical but one hell of a play car. I never found anything else that could keep it in sight up to 130mph. It didn't have spoilers and got a bit unstable over 130. It had 3.08 rear end and so was probably good for 150+ if you were brave enough. A 426 Hemi pulling 7000rpm in the lower gears through twin 3" pipes each side is a sound to remember and to tell the grandsons about.

At the other end of the engine size scale, I always loved Mini Cooper S & Hillman Imp GT's. The sheer cheekiness of these flyweight brawlers. Go around virtually any corner at any speed. Just point them at it and press the throttle down. Sitting almost on the road with your eyes at truck wheelnut level and a rowdy little high revving four banger screaming at you. Fun, fun, fun.

Awsome car the Z, albeit with some questionable interior build quality. I replaced it with my D2 as we had a baby on the way, we now have 2 kids so the disco is great at carting them around.....although it's turning into a money pit as the modification and 4wd obsession bites bad. All in the name of fun though.
Often tell myself I will buy another Z when they come down in price a bit and I can afford to have one as a second car (sports for work, 4wd for play:D ) as i'm due a mid life crisis....... although my wife would tell you I have been having one for some years now.

Anyway, I'll keep dreaming and admiring the R32's and Z on the road!!

There's a couple who I work with (as in de factos) who have 2 road bikes and a 300ZX between them (they used to have 2 zx's !!).

I always liked the 300 ZX. If I thought I could find a reliable one I'd consider thinking about perhaps buying one. :D

Being a severe 1980's Saab 900 Turbo fan, I waited 20 years go get hold of a 1980 Saab 900 Enduro Turbo. 15 were built as factory specials, and there are now 5 left in the world. They were the first production turbo cars in the world to get water injection as standard - and running 17psi boost off the floor they sure needed it. Fuels back then weren't what they are now.

I have mine and I 'ain't letting go! :)

I would prefer it over the 350:eek:
