I recall that when MG fitted the V8 to the MGB it was said that it was 19 pounds lighter than the I4 B series it replaced.
and the mention of 3800 should ring bells..

Who remembers that engine in the early 70's Camel (P6) Rovers which Jim Smith raced in Aus.
Had 4 downdraft twin choke Webers and beautifully hand made extractors.
Looking at that engine almost made me do pleasurable things to myself in private
And of course TRACO in the USA extracted high safe hp out of them.
A venerable engine indeed, as is the Jaguar XK 6 cyl engine from 1949 to middle 1980's in the XJ6 Series 3.

It may seem sacrilegious now, but I reckon Ford's Barra will one day join this company. It lacks racing cred, but it's a mighty thing, held in awe by tuners everywhere.

I've heard that 1,000 hp can be got out of a Barra engine, and yes I agree, it has just about earned its place in the Engine Hall of Fame.
I believe that Rover UK originally prepared the P6 for racing, and the Jim Smith car was a pukka ex works car.
Think I've seen one in a glorious blue colour in the UK.
The 1974 P6 "3500S" which had the manual gearbox was quite a quick road car in its time.
The UK Police had many.
Handling didn't match up to the car's performance though.
