    Historic Races

Went for a drive down to Warwick today to watch the classics, some very neat cars I would not want to bend, but doing what they were built to do.
Great day out, some fantastic racing.
Most of the action I got on video, not many still shots. That is untill the last race of the day, where I finally switched to my second battery so that I could make sure I got the whole of my Uncle's race,,, only to find it was flat. So I switched cameras and here's what happens when you don't have a video in your hand,,,
My Uncle was racing group S, not doing too badly untill a bump as they went under the bridge..

    good..

    Good timing with the camera.

I raced there a few weeks ago and it's a great facility, nice new surface too.

Love the older machines. Classic and historic bikes are my favourite. Mac Park in Mt Gambier SA, one of the best little bitumen tracks in the country.
Surrounded by forests, there is nothing like the sound of 20 or 30 Nortons, BSA's, Velo's, all the open megaphone pipes, the smell of methanol. The big Vincent and Ariel sidecars bellowing between the trees. Heaven.

Which is your uncle? Porsche or is it a Sprite? the pretty little blue car.

    Shorty.

    His is the Porsche.

I'd love to see some proper vintage bike racing sometime. Sat in behind some on the road, flipped up the face of my helmet and just listened. I've ridden a workmate's Commando, how sweet that sound!, how poor those brakes! How hard to retrain my brain to gearshift & brake.
One of Dad's mates had a T500 Suzuki when I was a lad, he gave it away 20yrs ago and it's been in Dad's shed ever since. In a very poor state now but almost complete - maybe a project for me one day.

Been dusted by some old blokes on old bikes too!

i loved that bike, don't let it die in the shed, it's worth doing up.

I wish I'd caught it sooner but now it's pretty bad shape. All the chrome shot & the fork tubes look u/s to me. It does have matching numbers tho and it's got pretty low mileage. The seals etc would be hard as nails by now, so would need a rebuild of just about everything. I only had a ride of it the once when I was about maybe 11 or 12 (that would be the last time it ran) but it was too much for me.
Still remember the sound of it tho,, twin stroker,, glorious. I do think I would like to restore it but it would be for the nostalgia & hobby factor only; I've seen mint ones going for far less than it would cost to restore.

The only thing in the garage now is Sue's ER500, but I do feel the need for a ride coming soon. It's good fun in tight mountains but I hate riding it on open roads and it's a bit cramped. And then there's my helmet & jacket that matches the colour of her bike (just a horrible coincidence) so I always look like a right dick riding it.
Might swindle bro's KTM, has a bit more poke and legroom. Keep that thought going. Any other takers as well?

No I wouldn't do that to you. I very nearly dropped the ER last weekend riding it up our block that has no driveway yet - too blase.
The KTM has just had road tyres put back on it.
