Our new shopping trolley has arrived

And we're just a little bit stoked So far it's set a new automotive high point for us.

    It's a 1.8 turbo with flappy-paddle double clutch sequential gearbox. Oh..and did I mention it's red.

No we didn't drive it. I'm told it's great. I just thought one diesel in the family was enough

It's a six speed sequential manual gearbox. It has two computer controlled clutches Basically you can put it in d for don't know and let it do it's stuff (happy Wife). Or, you can put it in manual mode and change gears with paddles behind the steering wheel. It blips the throttle on down changes, bangs and pops as it retards the ignition on super quick upchanges (happy life). The best bit is it feels like a real manual without a clutch.

Everyone that's driven the car have just been astonished at the gearbox. Simply amazing. Probably the best way to describe it is all the normal hydraulic autos with manual functions still feel like a auto with a manual option. This feels like a manual gearbox with an auto option.

Read the Wiki article on it here

In other news I found out that a basic upgrade chip will boost it to 150kw. I also rode in an audi with the same engine producing 500 newton metres of torque last night. That was neat.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this would be the ultimate 4x4 gearbox. It delivers ultra quick changes for sand, but when going downhill in first it should crawl like a normal manual.

Quite possibly. Having said that they have been around for a couple of years now in more powerful cars and I haven't heard of any complaints. My land rover is only 2.5 years old and it's had a clutch and flywheel replaced, diff replaced, leaky main seal repaired, new alternator.......

If I was going to loose sleep about car reliability I doubt it's going to be the Audi
