    I've just wet myself--

try to imagine the induction noise---

Filed under: Time Warp, Coupes, Sports/GTs, Ford

The Gulf Oil paint scheme was immortalized in motorsports history when the the '68-'69 Ford GT40 capped off four straight victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Later cars such as the Porsche 917 have also featured the unique livery, but it's the Ford GT40 that first comes to mind when you think of the light blue and orange paint.
Auto Futura, the manufacturers of the CAV GT replicar, have secured the rights to paint their cars in the Gulf Oil colors complete with period sponsor stickers and BRM wheels. The cars will also feature a 500 horsepower V8 with Weber IDF carburetors, nubuck leather interior with Gulf Oil logos embroidered on the seats, five-point safety harnesses, and special chassis plates identifying them as being officially licensed Gulf Oil cars. Each chassis number will be added to a registry, and owners will receive a certificate from Gulf Oil confirming their vehicle's authenticity. Follow the jump for full features and details.

    earplugs, anyone ?

I know back in the day the real race cars didn't use air filters, but with that amount of $$ invested in a machine like that, I'd want at least ITG's or K&N's sitting over the ram tubes, those bits of foam will only stop rocks.....

Actually, I'd be scared the damn thing would ingest them at 7000RPM.

Think I'll have to hire out 'Le Mans' with Steve McQueen one more time.....

The mechanic who first taught me all about engines and racing used to lament "I feel sorry for all you young blokes that have never heard an F5000 at full noise uncorked...."
I think I was born a decade or two too late.

living where I do, and shopping in Scone you would occasionally hear Col Pay overhead in his CAC-18 (Oz built P-51) doing circuits. Unfortunately he won't be doing this anymore.

It's a noise once heard, never forgotten.

I got a look over an original Gulf oil GT40 at Duttons about 14 years ago and they are a very basic machine which is way over powered for their size.......Which is great.

It was started to move it around getting ready for the start of the Dutton Rally and it sounded awsome.
