Heard from my daughter in Bundaberg, this morning. the dog has finally been put down. Took a while I guess, the owner had the option of keeping the dog behind a fence but she didn't want to do that.

Just as well so what happened to your daughter won't happen again. Well at least not from that dog.

Just went to Morpeth to have a look at the art exhibit. They were all very good, hopefully someone buys one and puts it in a gallery.

I have been toying with the idea of doing some exercising. Not into the gym scene. Push bike riding does appeal, I did a lot of it when I was a teenager but there are too many morons driving cars nowadays, so I rule that out as too dangerous.

When I was a teenager I owned a canoe and my younger brother and myself spent many a day paddling around Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens.

I walk a lot, every day I walk too and from work and I am reasonably fit for my age.

A kayak appeals because I can exercise, not worry about being run over by a drunk moron and also take my camera with me to take interesting photo's, as I am also interested in photography. Mrs Aus is interested in a kayak also.

Any body had any kayak or canoe experience??? If so what recommendations for a kayak to be used in still waters, such as a lake. I would also prefer a "sit-in" type rather than a "sit-on" type but am open to suggestions.
I have done a lot of Kayaking, both White water and Surf. Very little flatwater as I was a sort of adrenaline junkie. All my paddling has been in a Sit in Kayak with a Spray skirt [ONLY TIME I WEAR A SKIRT ]

Firstly if there is a Canoe club near you they will often advise you and let you try out different Kayaks. Well at least the one I was a Member of in the 1970s did.

Several local Kayak shops [local within 100 km] will have days where you can try out a kayak--do not know if it is the same down south but I would think some shops would have demo Kayaks--perhaps on a hire and money back if you buy.

When you are ready to start tip over a few times and practice getting out of the Kayak underwater. With many Kayaks you will never tip over, but if you are swamped by a yahoo in a power boat you will know what to do and not panic.

You can but a dry bag to carry your camera [around 20 dollars], and keep air in this dry bag so it floats.

Plenty of Second hand Kayaks are on Gum tree. I keep watching Kayaks on Gum Tree. The fibreglass Kayak I was trying to sell for $195 with a old paddle did not sell.

Two singles may be a better option than a double, incase one of you wants to stay home while the other paddles. Otherwise get a double and one single. A couple of weeks ago there was a nice double at the Tweed Heads Tender Center. Do not know if that sold.

I know of Second hand kayaks up this way if you are planning on coming up--but you should get something local.

Plastic will take a lot of knocking around, but old Fibreglass Kayaks should be very cheap. I sold two Letman Slalom Kayaks, one for $100-- and one for $120--. And I got these cheaper. Saw one I would recommend in a local junk shop window for $70-- with a paddle. I have purchased Kayaks [I have had a lot of them, over a dozen] for as little as $20.

I would think something like a old KW7 kayak [fibreglass], or an old down river racer would be good for you.

My advice will be different if you are going to buy new and spend a lot of money. Ask me.

Do wear PDF-- also often second hand here. It was a requirement that you carry PDF in NSW waters. I assume it still is a requirement but have not checked recently.

A spare paddle -- one that can be carried in two halves-- between several Kayaks.

I do recommend you Kayak with others-- so if you tip out, some one can arrange resque.

Do practice paddling/controlling kayak close too shore before going out into middle of lakes.

When I was paddling in surf/ocean 3-4 days a week for nine months, I lost 7 kilos from my gut. I get painful knees feet, so Kayaking suits me more than walking.

If you have any more questions please ask me--time is nearly up on this computer.

Ok so this is the pot belly stove I got.. Pics before & after. Its a Metters no 2 dumpy.

DOG LOVES IT & WASNT MOVING FOR ANYONE

So that's it.. Fired it up today & boy did it fill the shed with smoke , from the paint , it is the rite paint just needs to burn in.. When I put it back together there was is gaps down each corner so I filled those with epoxy metal. Didn't do around under the top plate but will have to as there is smoke getting out there. & gee does the flu get hot I touched it & burnt myself..It put off some good heat though so I think it will be just fine. I also want to fit some mesh in the bottom of the chimely & at the top for any stray embers cause nextdoors garage is right next to the top of the flu & its very old so I will be playing it safe..

Oh I also think I mite buy a new kettle as that one is so old & all the soot buildup on it if I tried to clean it I would probably clean the bottom right out of it.. I use it on the OZ pig & just throw it in the fire..The stove is going to need a few burns to settle the paint in so it will still be a little smokey for a couple more burns then it should be just great..

I think the dogs face sums in up pretty well.
I must admit I am surprised how well it came up.
Where did you get the pot belly from ?
where do you get your wood from?

That looks really good Jase. I love a real fire, probably almost as much as your dog.
