Well, they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... someone else's eye, in this case!

Interesting that they have picked up on so many things pioneered by Land Rover. Independent suspension, Terrain Response - tho they call it something different, third row seats that fold into the floor, electronics by the truckload ... is this really a Nissan Patrol?

And its big, bigger than a Landcruiser, which is quite an achievement. Its also uglier, which is quite an achievement too! But then beauty - and presumably ugly - is in the eye of ...

But the technological progression was inevitable. Once Land Rover had raised the bar the others had to follow, or lose their markets.

    New Patrol

Slowly the market catches up with the Disco......

New Nissan Patrol bigger, more luxurious

Lots of interesting things about the new vehicle...... but kinda took exception to this bit.......

"....just like its only logical rival the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series."

although the if I look at that positively, I guess it could be read that the D3/4 has no rival...... and the Patrol and LC200 can fight it our for second place.......

They're doing it anyway. Lots of them. And in lot less capable vehicles than a Nissan Patrol. But they don't often get into the accident statistics, probably because they're older and have learned a few things about driving on the way. And they're not in a hurry.

It is good to see that they have learnt from customer comment even if it only took 10 years to do it: removed the 50/50 split 2nd row seat.

I did not read the article but would assume that the average Australian will not be able to afford the latest patrol therefore this may give the Defender and 76 series landcruiser a bigger market share due to price when the GU disapears

It mentions in the article that Nissan (being quite clever) are keeping the old patrol in production for those who still want a workhorse...... I reckon of the two, this would remain the big seller

Kind of fitting that the photo was taken down at the marina; looks and most likely handles like a barge!

I thought it was the usual drivel from the Fairfax car journo's. To be fair they should have even mentioned the Pajero as well as the Discovery.

Yuck, looks more like a people mover, i reckon it would have trouble driving over a football let alone rocky ground.

Having just come from a Patrol, I think I will reserve my opinion until we actually have a vehicle on the ground, and get a full review.
I suspect their reference to the 200, has more to do with the similarity in size. The 200 is a 'big ' vehicle.
