But you are right... even the trailer can be a trap.... I find you just have to bite the bullet and be sensible about the amount of "Stuff" you take.

According to the numbers I can carry 800 kg over Tare in the Disco.

I will have to be fussy about the company I keep.

It's a 2 door so that's easy after I remove the rear seats.

I just took a look at mine - I can carry around 700Kg

8O ... me plus a full tank of fuel gets me down to about 500Kg...

Once I do the sums for a big trip.. :!: :!: :!: The Camper trailer Empty has a ball weight of near 50Kg... ( I better take a little extra time balancing it when I pack)

So I probably come within a hundred kilos or so once we are fully loaded ops:

The kerb weight usually includes a full tank of fuel. Obviously not aftermarket tanks.

But if you add up every accessory on your truck -- all of them, even the aftermarket rims and tyres -- probably none make it lighter, and each one probably eats at least 2kg into your payload.

What accessories are on your truck, Bytemrk? Dual battery? Bullbar? Probably 60kg right there. Cargo barrier, UHF radio, driving lights, roofrack, kiddie seats, AT tyres, steel rims, rubber mats, cargo system, fridge, winch, tools....

One_iota, you'd be laughing as a 2-door Disco probably has the same GVM (max weight) as a 4-door, but would be lighter due to less doors, so more payload. And the tare weight would include the rear seats, so as you take them out you probably get 40-50kg worth of extra payload anyway.

A friend of mine says that people should trying camping on foot before they start with cars. Not a bad idea, although I did that and I still use all the space!

Did the tip trip a while back at Lismore, weighbridge said 1860kg, half a tank of juice but not including me. Disco 93V8auto 7 seats 5 doors stock.
Recently read the new D3 tips in at 2700kg, middle age spread?

Yep the D3 is a PORKER. Although 2700kg is only the top-end spec diesel, the base models are closer to a mere 2500kg.

Diesels are heavier than petrols, autos heavier than manuals, and every spec level upwards costs you roughly 20-40kg in payload. All those naff electric motors you see.
