    Hi there...

I'm interested in this system... Intend fitting 2 aux batteries.. one in rear cargo area of a 2003 Disco and the other in the caravan. Which batteries do you recommend for the disco and caravan. Disco running an Engel.. Caravan battery for lights and an inverter to run kettle and microwave.. Your advice would be appreciated.. Retaining the OME battery in the engine bay ( Wet Cell Battery)
    Thanks
    Shaheed

Hi ssk, I’ll post more info to cover the whole installation in more detail tonight, when I have a bit more time to reply to your post.

    I’ll start at the caravan.

To run a kettle or a microwave you are not only going to need one huge inverter, you will also have to have a very large cranking battery and even then I don’t think you will get much of a life span from the battery, depending on how often you intend to use it.

A microwave over uses a lot more power than you think. The oven may be an 800 watt microwave but this is the amount of cooking power, they actually need much more power than this and is usually roughly about double the cooking power, so an 800w microwave would probably need at least 1,500 watts of power to operate it.

As for a kettle, the smallest I have seen is a 1,500w 240vac.

So in both cases, you are going to need a something like a 2,000 watt inverter.

I think you need to do a lot more research before you go further.

To the battery in the back of the disco.

If this battery is going to be permanently mounted in the disco and as long as you use the disco on a regular basis, you can fit any type of battery.

    Cheers.
