The RN's 4th submarine squadron was based at HMAS Penguin, until the RAN had submarines of their own. And what a bunch of characters they were. Good men, mad as cut snakes. I remember, as a young Naval apprentice, billeted with my cohort at Penguin to fulfil our training at the Fleet Maintenance section of G.I., when one of the T Boats came back in on late Friday afternoon, after exercising for two weeks, when one of the RNer's walked towards the shower, with towel in hand, his mates said " if you have a shower, you are not coming ashore with us". And so he didn't. They used to say it was a good way to get a seat at the bar.
