Read about the War in the Pacific, you would be excused for thinking America did all the heavy lifting. The Australian efforts, like being the first to defeat the Japanese on land, at Milne Bay, or the desperate struggle by a heavily outnumbered militia, until relieved by the AIF, on the Kokoda Track, to push the Japanese Army back over the Owen Stanley's, rarely rate a mention in US or British histories. And, as those that are left drop off the perch, most Australians aren't aware either. So, Battle of the beachheads.
