GM to sell only zero emmission vehicles by 2035

The days of the internal combustion engine are numbered.
General Motors said Thursday that it would phase out petroleum-powered cars and trucks and sell only vehicles that have zero tailpipe emissions by 2035, a seismic shift by one of the world’s largest automakers that makes billions of dollars today from gas-guzzling pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles.
The announcement is likely to put pressure on automakers around the world to make similar commitments. It could also embolden President Biden and other elected officials to push for even more aggressive policies to fight climate change. Leaders could point to G.M.’s decision as evidence that even big businesses have decided that it is time for the world to begin to transition away from fossil fuels that have powered the global economy for more than a century.

Curious to see what they magically find to power their cars though. Battery is good but we’re not quite there with battery capacity and rate of charge. Hydrogen maybe?

Hydrogen could be the go, I'm trying to find an article on the latest with hydrogen, will post it here when I do. But in the meantime, some other news.

    China forcing the issue.

China’s big lead in the race to electric cars

General Motors’ surprise announcement that it plans to eliminate gasoline and diesel cars from its fleet by 2035 and embrace electric cars follows a road map drawn by Beijing.

Chinese companies dominate the world’s production of electric motors and have control of much of the world’s production of key raw materials needed for electric cars, including lithium, cobalt and rare earth metals. How G.M. will shift its industrial capacity isn’t entirely clear, and the company didn’t mention China in its announcement last week.

Other players: Daimler and Toyota have jumped into joint electric-car ventures with Chinese manufacturers. Ford Motor’s new all-electric Mustang Mach-E will be made in China as well as Mexico. So far, no Chinese company has produced an electric car that can rival Tesla in capturing the world’s imagination, although one, NIO, is trying.
