Building purpose built shallow draught vessels for live export was thought about, because no matter what you do, Karumba is and always will be a shallow water port. The problem has been lately guaranteeing cattle numbers to make the building and maintaining such ships viable. It just doesn't stack up, no matter which way you look at it, without the money from the mine.
