    Hello Fluids,

Thank you for your message. I will find out this Friday. Cross fingers. Otherwise I will take the part off and track down a local welder that does small jobs at a reasonable price.

Or I could go retro and fit a bit of rope to the left hand wheel pivot point and pretend it is a billy cart!

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

I have one of the very last aussie made Ranchers (18hp single deck) made. It's steering started jumping and skipping... Similar to what yours is probably doing. I couldn't see signs of any real wear on the cogs though. I finally worked out the lower column bracket had come loose. It was allowing the teeth to unmesh and "jump". It could be worth a check.

If yours is one of the last mowers, you will find it doesn't cut grass for **** either too Here's how I fixed mine to get the damn thing to actually cut grass rather than tear the **** out of it and "hack it up".

Is anyone else being driven insane by mowers that don't cut ?

There a bloody good mower those rovers. Mine has the heal toe that looks like an improved copy of the greenfield friction drive (how on earth did rover get away with that without being sued). It still has it's original cutter belt. Because it never slips and screams like the hopeless american made junk sold here, it seems to last forever. 4 blades are only about $30 bucks to replace ... which I do often as the paddock is very un-even and there always hitting the ground/rocks/bricks. I can't understand how the american "bar blades" can be sold here. First rock you hit you bend them ... and break deck spindals etc... 'cos they don't rotate back like the locally made stuff with swing back blades.

They actually improved the layout of it ... it's all up inside the mower. On the little greenfields you chew out the chain/cogs as there out in the grass and muck. In the rover there mounted inboard.

I'm not looking forward to the day the friction material wears out. It looks like you need to dismantle the entire mower to get the drive unit out!

    For those who wait...

    Hello All,

I was able to pick up the steering sector gear today. I can now steer to the left and to the right when I want to. I can also do that fine adjustment required in order to maintain a straight line over a distance. Woo Hoo

    Kind Regards
    Lionel
