Do you want to test petrol or diesel engines?
Aaron
Christmas is coming and the kids are asking me what I would like. I'm thinking a restored 1948 80" but they are thinking more like something from Supercheap/Autobarn etc . So I thought a compression tester might be useful. Any suggestions as to what will do the job? I have the original Rover engines in all of mine.
cheers,
D

occasionally on ebay you get the dual test kits turn up.
if you're only going for petrol stuff its worth trying to get one thats either got both or is a combo compression and leak down tester.

Dark,
If you are after a petrol compression tester I recently acquired a Stanley one from SuperCheap for $59 on sale. I'm happy with it. It came with both a "push on" rubber tipped fitting and a flexible hose screw in fitting (with adaptors for large and small plug holes). The screw in fittings are preferable to the push on in terms of consistency of readings. I've found it to be easy to use on my V8 D1 - in fact much easier to use than my old CT which is push on but a bit short to easily access the rear passenger side cylinder.
I did a scan of eBay before I bought from SC and the Stanley seemed to me to be the best value without going to "professional quality".

thanks all.
I didn't realise there was one for petrol and one for diesel.
I'll look into the dual kits - but probably will suggest a petrol one for now.
thanks for the heads up.
