    Infrared Thermometer

Looking at picking one of these up, but not sure how accurate they are. I notice SCA have their own brand on special, but it doesn't matter how cheap it is if it's not accurate enough.

    Any suggestions?

I have a small jaycar cheapie and it's pretty ok. Earlier in the year I used it to check the jags cooling fan operation. Give or take a degree or so it reported the same temps as in the workshop manual for fan cut in/out.

I suspect the cheaper ones will have a more restricted temperature reading range though.

    Cheers

I bought a cheap one a few years ago and used it on my pumped solar hot water system during testing. The reading varied considerably with the surface condition. Bright brass read cooler than the same fitting treated with a squirt of matt black paint.

I would have had at least one in the POS Hi-lux you could have played with.

Out of curiosity, what brand/s do you have?

Thanks for the offer, but I'd like one to own, I'd have a few uses around the home.

We use Fluke brand temp guns at work, not as accurate as our thermal camera but reasonably close
