Analogue meggers are way better than digital.

As for a Multimeter,we use Fluke and nothing else, excellent quality, get bashed around, dropped, etc, and used all day,no issues.
And the leads last and last, which is extremely important when using them for 240,and 415V.
Although we replace the leads annually, anyway.

For current draw,i use a digital clamp tester,"Center" brand,it does both AC and DC,up to 400A,which suits what we do fine.
You must use them to make a living from. The average DIYer isn't spending fluke type money for something we rarely use I'm hoping us DIY'ers are keeping away from 240+ volt AC power systems with there cheap meters!

Yes they help pay the bills....

Each Fluke would last at least 10yrs with no issues,so pay for themselves easily.
And working with the voltages we work with, all day,we need something super reliable.

Unlike the latest Electronic Refrigerant leak detectors, they cost a lot more than a Fluke meter, but often don't even last a year, without going back for some kind of repair, although they do get used most days.

I'd actually like to access it to ID some parasitic drainage, and then present it to DazzaTD5 (as a thankyou) who is my long term mechanic here in Perth.

With a maximum of 30uA that meter is not suitable for what you want to do with it. You'll be looking at between 1-a couple of hundred mA for a noticable "parasitic leakage" on the D4.

A couple of milliamps is lower than the self discharge loss on a lead acid battery of that size.

That is really cool. It jumps from 0.1 amp to 1amp. But has a huge range of very, very low current ranges. This is probably designed for electronics board testing? You would probably blow it up trying to use it on a car?

Yep, belonged to an electronics tech.
Not a lot of use for automotive, it would be quite fragile.

Analogue? I have an AVO 8 that I no longer have a need for.

    I should advertise it.

Megger, yep, I have one of those (genuine) that I no longer need.

If all you are doing is basic auto elec then the Ali mob ones are fine. Heck, I even got one with a scope in it which is handy for checking signals from the ECU.

Like this... I don't think I got this exact one, as you are spoilt for choice... But mine works fine, and can even do stuff on my old HiFi gear, where absolute accuracy isn't mandatory.

However, you need to check the ads, as they are sneaky. The whole thing in the pic isn't always what you get.....
