    converting to 4WD tyres

    Hi,
I currently have a camper trailer that has sedan wheels on it and I would like to convert them to 4WD wheels and tyres, the same that I have on my Disco now, this way I will have two spare tyres and they will fit the car or trailer.
any tips / hits on how to convert the axle hubs? can it be done

    cheers

    all things are possible.
    just a few questions?
    -what model discovery
-does the camper have brakes if so what type
-do you know what style hubs are currently on the trailer. My guess is standard (holden) bearings but they may just be slimline (ford) bearings.

Go to a trailer place and tell them your plans you may be able to buy hubs/bearings and L/R pattern drums to fit your axle or you might have to buy a complete axle setup to suit your L/R wheels, Good Luck, Regards Frank

    wheel conversion

G'day DBKDISCO.I went down the same track for the same reasons approx 4-5 years ago .I found Melb.trailer and caravan supplies 1-3 Ashley drive Chelsea Heights 3136 ph no9772 2333 very help full. The web site www.melbourne trailers.com.au-make sure to get the right wheel nuts and the studs are long enough and of course the same stud pattern.I remember the pricing wasn't bad and I've had no problems ,I,ve done a fair amount of ''of roading'' with the trailer.Cheers Lochie

    Is it for a disco1 or disco2
if disco1 - ALKO and other trailer manufacturers make LR pattern non braked hubs with holden bearings... The biggest issue is that 16in wheels and offroad tyres really put a lot of load on standard holden bearings. They will require extra maintanence!

if disco2 although still possible you have a few more hoops to jump through!

does the trailer have the guard clearance and offset clearance to take 16in rims and tyres?

I ventured on this path a few moths ago. I have a P38 rangie, 1999, which has interchangeable wheels with the Disco 2.

In building a camper trailer for a trip to Cape york, I obtained a 45mm (round)Alko axle with heavy duty bearings supporting 10 inch electric drum brake hubs. The hubs are drilled to Holden Commodore VZ PCD pattern and fitted with Commodore VZ wheel studs....which take LR wheel nuts

The Commodore wheel studs are however a shade too long in the non-threaded part of the shank (given that the drum walls are far thinner than a ventilated disc) so I simply fitted a set of 10mm universal wheel spacers I picked up from Autobarn for about $20. The result is a perfect fit with the hub grease cover fitting snugly through, and flush with, the outer surface of the wheel boss... no machining of wheels. I bought most of the bits through a local group here in Brisbane OEM Wholesale Caravan, Camper, Trailer Parts - Australian Trailer Spare Parts Manufacturer and the wheel studs from the local Holden parts place.
