hey im not going to complain about pink curtains... at the end of the day the wife still agreed on getting one, so if pink curtains is the only draw back then meh... lol

im not that experienced in setting it up, (before i continue, my wife and i have named our camper "Mr Anderson" (dont ask, my wife and i are a bit quirky and name all of our stuff lol) )

Being a novice, "Mr Anderson" takes me alone around 15 minutes to set up. But that doesnt include the Annex and the awning and flys.

I intend on getting a few pics put up of all of that set up. We want to get used to setting everything up at home before we take it away.

    cheers lads (and ladettes)

Nice pickup - I have a 99 Goldstream Storm and can assure you they are much more rugged than Jayco. I haven't really done any serious off road with it but it has survived about 18,000 kms from Tassie up the Centre, Uluru, Palm Valley, Kakadu, Gregory NP, Tanami, Oodnadatta Track, Gammon Ranges, Flinders Ranges etc without a problem.

thanks for the kind words lads, there a few things which i will customise with the goldwing, twin water tanks, twin gas bottles, etc..

quick question.... the suspension in my disco, seems to sag in the rear whe i tow, it does have the polyairs which are stuffed.. should i just replace the poly airs or should i get new shockers? or should i put a 2 inch lift.

(note, i prefer not to lift it as the disco wont fit into the car park at work if i did)

    1. Have you measured the towball weight of the van? Perhaps you need to redistribute the weight so as to relieve the load on the towbar...

    2. Standard shock absorbers won't help with the sag issues...but reset rear springs might.

    3. Resetting the springs to a higher spring rate will cause less deflection with load, but will harden up the ride.. new polybags might be the better option ...

    4. A 2" lift just adds to instability when having to make quick manouvres at higher speeds to avoid trouble...for off road situations, if you pick the correct line higher lifts are rarely needed...

Totally agree regarding the poly-airs or similar but I couldn't disagree more with the comment regarding lift and greater clearance. YES it depends on the type of 4wding you are going to do, but if it invloves creek crossings or rutted tracks then a moderate lift is warranted if you want to avoid damage to sills etc.

ok, thanks for that lads. The more i think about it, the more i realise that polyairs are the way to go.

Another question.... i need to get a brake controller, been informed that tekonsha is the way to go. Any tips or tricks involved with electronic brake controllers? or do you just adjust on "feel"

I recently installed a REDARC with remote head brake controller. Very simple to operate and on first try out a few weeks ago it was great. The Tekonsha appears to have more bells and whistles but it is bulky and by all accounts, most people never use the extra features. Best part is they are made in SA so all aussie product.
It will cost you a bit less than the foriegn product as well. I bought mine online direct complete with cable and connectors, think it was about $180 to my door.
www.redarc.com.au I think or there are a few suppliers on Evilbay
SOOOOO simple to operate....much better than the others IMHO

I scoured the posts here and on several trailer sites and ended up with a Tekonsha P3. The REDARC was a close second. The Tekonsha is mounted in a small bracket...plug'n'play. Fitted a second bracket and wiring to different car ...all need to do is slip out the little black box and insert into second car when towing the camper, or any other trailer with electric brakes similarly wired...

I can see how the portability might be an advantage but for me the Redarc suits me fine and it can be installed anywhere, even one of the unused switch blanks is big enough and the main unit fits up under the dash out of the way. I have the controller mounted in a dash pod I made that also houses the UHF and soon, my diff lock switches... roll on the 21st Feb!
All comes down to what floats your boat I guess, but the price for the Redarc was from memory about $100 less as well.
