    Going to a Hard Floor

Currently we have an O'briens off roader (soft floor), very tough and I think it's well equipped but..... I can put it up on my own but buggered if I can get it down again! I like to get off fishing on my own at times and wouldn't mind being able to do it in some comfort these days....yeah yeah, I'm gettin old!
I'm Very tempted by a Tvan, but bloody hell they're exy even 2nd hand. Also looking at Aussieswag... they seem very well made, especially the later models but once again, for anything less than 4 years old, try $30k and up.
I've just started looking at the Cub campers. They seem to be good value at about $25k brand new for a genuine offroader with independent suspension etc and a lot of 'extras' thrown in. They also got a great write-up in the latest 4x4 mag.
Anyone with any direct experience with Cub, I'd really like to read your feedback.

Hi Wardy,I don't own one but have had a good look at them a few times, well made and one of the few campers that have the kitchen inside!(on certain models),if I paid $30k for a camper,I don't want to set up a annex to cook if its raining, also a hard floor is good in wet weather, and also their ball weight is around 60kg which is a sensible amount, some others are over 100kg which is a lot for a camper

my parents had a cub camper, keep in mind it was not the off road model

it was a spacematic from memory with upgraded springs transcontinental pack?

i used it for a 30 night trip to tassie and back 3 or so years ago and it suited us, had some foul weather and it stood the test. towed at 110km/hr behind a falcon station wagon no problems at all. the winch system to pack it up was a treat although it was a bit tight with the awning on

they are priced right although just there in quality in my opinion, we had no troubles apart from missing one small step when packing and punched a hole in the floor.

i would consider one if i had the $$$ but instead my $4k soft floor project will have to do for a few years

i went camping over easter with a guy that just brought a Mod Con......not much change out of $40k, i reckon CUB would easily match it

all good point, the kitchen in side was a blessing in foul weather, it heated the tent up as well

The thing that stops us from getting a hard floor camper is the lack of storage in them, although the later model Cub Spacevan looks like it could be good for storage and a they have addressed to rear door access when the camper is closed by making the door larger/taller.

So in the future when they come down in price, maybe.

They are worth a look though.

I , like you,had the soft floor. But soon found out that the hard floor versions are the way to go and the cub seems to be a good buy.Go for it.

depends on what you want in terms of features

l bought a Goldstream off road camper for $9000 flip top lid hard floor plenty of storage under the mattress cooking was outside on side annexe which was easy to erect and gave cover during day and l preferred to have cooking smell and mess outside anyway, if you do need to cook inside you could always use your gas stand cooker.

The Goldstream was simple and cheap to buy and was offered version never had any problems with it
