Thread: DRIFTER kitchens - show us yours

I've ordered one and paid the deposit but since Easter theres not been enough work to pay for the completion of mine

I'm thinking about getting one for my camper canopy. I'm thinking about modifying a MSA 4x4 | Platinum Drop Slide drop down slide like I have for my fridge, to allow the kitchen to slide out of the camper and drop down (like my fridge will). Due to the canopy being a bit high when on the back of the 130 - or us being a bit low to reach

I know they're good units, but I've often wondered how hard (and how much cheaper) they would be to make, especially if you're copying one.

A couple more shots will get some better ones when finished

We have the slide out kitchen in our camper trailer and it is fantastic, makes everything so easy to get too and easily organised.
I am going to make a slide out storage box to go beside it, this is basically a rectangular box with a base, but for the price ''Drifta'' charge I think you would be hard pressed to build a comparable kitchen, if you factor in your time!

Well, not having a flash camper trailer, we opted for the carback combo setup from Drifta. It works well, and keeps swmbo (& I) happy to have some decent bench space to work from. All packs away in the back of the D2 neatly, and when the kitchen's not required, gets replaced with a standard drawer.

My FIL is a carpenter. Reckons he could easily build these things, but probably for no less (probably more) than we paid!

Kelvin, yes it does. 3rd last pic, drawer is in, kitchens out. Remove Corona's and insert kitchen !

Kitchen's normally the first thing out, so being ontop is just as convenient as being in the bottom. The kitchen drawer still slides out while it's in the top position as it's a drawer in a box. Travelling light, leave the 2nd drawer at home & insert kitchen ... or not. It doesn't rattle , it's light, well built and seems pretty strong ... and the complete setup incl' the drop slide was only a small amount more than a premium set of steel, rollered drawers only (no kitchen).

Now this is not a DRIFTER kitchen but one I built late last year before a camping trip.

I apologies for the quailty of the pics as they are taken on my phone as our camera has crapped itself.

Now only thing I didnt put on it was the legs as I ran out of time so we just used our fold out table and since it worked well Ive never bothered puting legs on it plus the table gives me extra storage space when cooking.



You can just see the extended pole which is clipped to the back using the door stoppers you use in your house to keep doors open and from hitting walls.


This is the side draw used for storing pots, sink and tap.

All of the draws and lid is held closed with the bungie tie downs used on utes to hold rear tonneau covers.


Parts used was
15mm for main box and 12mm for draws (already had)
Marine carpet and glue
Black Paint (Already Had)
Wood Glue and screws (already had screws)
2xlatchs and 2xchest handles
3xpair of draw runners
2xhinges
4xBungie tonneau cover tie downs plus clips.
1xcut down tent pole
2xdoor ds1 pastic clips
and also sink plus pump tap.

Anyway thats my homemade kitchen and for what it cost me and the final product Iam more then happy, but I cannot take credit for the design as its based on the Drifter.
