I have a 109 tub and hard top that I am going to make a camper out of. I am going make up a frame out of rectangular hollow steel to similar dimensions to a Landrover chassis and use the front springs from a Landrover minus a couple of leaves . Them I will use the rear axle assembly complete, This will allow me to utilize the brakes.
I am going to get hydraulic motor from a bob cat or similar and attach it to the diff via a short shaft the motor will be mounted to the frame work of the trailer, I will them use a 12 volt electric motor to drive the hyd. pump which will be all under the tub between the rails along with the tank. Power will be taken from the towing vehicle when needed.
All I need now is for some of the more intelligent ones on this sight to work out the finer details of the electric motor etc.
and help me refine it a bit more.

Saw one done not far from me.
I have a plan in my head, two tubs, two roofs and two sides.
I want to put the roof on with a 8 inch space between it and the tub. Have a 8 inch tail gate with a fold out stair to get in easy and a barn door to close it all up. This would have enough room that you don't have to bend over to much. I would extend the tub forward at the height of the box and out as far as the 109 roof ends. This would fis a double bed and have enough space that you could have two singe chairs each side of the door way to sit and put you boots on.
I looked at doing it a while back and started collecting bits and then got given an old Jayco which I have fixed up instead.
The only problem I kept coming up with was that it would still be smaller than most campers of the pop out beds style that I was going to build but the off road camper type would be pretty easy.
Sorry to rain on your parade but a hydraulic wheel motor needs high flow for it to operate and a 12v electric hydraulic pump wont flow anywhere near enough to drive the wheel motor to any useable speed.
You could on the other hand run a hydrostat off the PTO and add some QC fittings to the back and run a small but torquey hydraulic motor on a step up gearbox or a high ratio diff centre so you get a better travel speed than dead slow.
The hydrostat control can then be set up on overide hitch to speed up when the hitch pulls open and slows when it closes.
The only thing that will need to be done is to have free wheeling hubs so your not driving the hydraulic motor unless you need it.
Another advantage is you will have an on board hydraulic supply for any attachment like a tipping trailer, jack, stump grinder, log splitter etc.
It wont be cheap is the other issue as a large enough hydrostat will set you back approx $3k new and if in good condition $1500 to $2k secondhand for one big enough for the job and probably the same for the hydraulic motor.
Add another grand at least for hosing and controls and then it might work to some extent.
High flow hydraulics are very expensive and very heavy so in my opinion would be a bit of a pipe dream but I would be more than willing to help anyone in anyway I could to see if that sort of system would work.
Cheers Casper

Thank you Casper
I Have got the ball rolling that is why I posted my plan to get feed back like yours, the power would not be used while on highways etc only in hard going like sand, and it would be able to be turned on and off as needed, and yes free wheeling hubs are part of the plan.
The cost has blown me out out of the water though.
