I have one with tyre and jerry can holders. It works just like the swing away on a 4WD and locks open. There is a lever handle with a pin to prevent it opening under the left side (much like on a Kaymar carrier) and the unit is held in place by this and a support bracket it sits in. On the right side there is a spring loaded locking pin that is manually moved in to place to stop the arm swinging closed.
It is good in that it takes some weight of the front of the trailer and of course would be very useful if you had the boat rack and the swing away with the outboard on it. The only real downside is that you need more spec as the arm sticks out to the side at about 45 degrees when open. I needed something to allow me to have two spare tyres on the trailer, so I got the swing away. I probably wouldn't have bothered otherwise.
