    caravan component weights

What are the relative weights of internal van components?

    (am thinking towing stability here)
even just a list in order might help,,
consider items loaded, ie fidge stocked, kitchen benches storage loaded, beds covered and storage filled etc,

    kitchen,
    beds, twin or island,
    shower/toilet
    seats,

so , really 4 distinct areas,,

given the chance where would you put them?

When we ordered our new van we tried to do a floor plan that centred the heavy stuff. The water tanks are 1 rear 2 forward. The van seems very well balanced and stable under tow.

I "think" the en-suite would weigh less than the bed,,,

Chances are the ensuite weighs more but once you add in all the gear everyone stores under their beds then yes the bed area would weigh lots more.

For your information our 18' Outback pop top Jayco towed pretty ordinary behind the D2a but tows fantastically behind the D3. So in our situation at least its more a case of what your tow vehicle tows like more than van layout.

While the photo's have little to do with on road towing manners it does show if a van is built with enough ground clearance and good independant suspension then you can go to some pretty difficult places. I believe the D2a would not have towed our van in and out of John's property last weekend without it being a massive struggle but the D3 did it easy. Our van fully laden with everything including all 3 water tanks full only weighs 2.5 ton by the way.

These pictures do not do justice at all to how steep the gully in and out was. At least now from these pics I finally get to see how the solar panels look on the roof. ...

    cheers,
    Terry

There is also a washing machine and the Hot water system at the back. We don't put heavy items under the bed. We do have a tunnel boot and a front tool box so we do need to be careful how much we do load in the front areas. We also do have 2 spares on the back.

Its around 2700 tare was 2560 originally I had the suspension changed which raised the tare around 150kg. In travel trim I estimate its around 3100-3400 depending on water.

why the suspension change...? see link
