My army trailer. Will be a very mild camper trailer.

This is my ex army trailer I purchased from Mannheim auctions Brisbane last year. These trailers are bloody awsome! I only payed $770, after purchasing it I did some research and there selling for more than double! I should of brought 2!

So I've converted the hitch so it's a standard tow hitch, ran new wiring to some new similar to original trailer lights. I pulled the big red light/reflector off the back. I was going to turn this into a fully dedicated camper however decided against. All I'll be doing is just adding a completely removable flip to lid with a camper top bolted to it. I was going to cut the tailgate out to make it swing open but I like the idea of a completely sealed tub. I'll perhaps bolt some Jerry can holders on and wack a toolbox across the drawbar that can sit on a frame. Maybe add a under tub water tank, also looking at attaching a spare wheel to it aswell.

The vehicle in the pic is my project Sierra. It has 3inch efs lift kit, 30inch Maxxis bighorns, olive drab paint job, custom rear bar with led lights, custom front bar running a Aldi winch, 1.6 vitara efi engine, tube sliders and a heap of other stuff!

With that suite of modifications perhaps you might investigate one already built to purpose.
If you decide to go ahead with these modifications,I'll be watching this thread with keen interest.
Other people on this site are doing similar.
I'm just puting a camper tent on the top of my Track. Did you have any camper tent tops in mind?

Love the red park brake on the Suzi.

you're aware that fully loaded as a camper its going to weigh in at more than the tow vehicle right?

I wouldn't of got such a well made trailer for what I want $800. Im looking at the oztrail 9 tent as I have contacts at oztrail. However whenever I setup camp I'll have to dig some holes for the wheels to sit in cause of the height of the trailer. I've read all the threads with people badgering on about don't molest an army trailer. But all I can say Is everyone has a different opinion, any modification will be most likely reversible but I bought this trailer to use not to look at!

That will never be the tow vehicle when it's fully loaded. I'll be purchasing a sr5 hilux soon. I just thought it would make a great pic! I'm sure the Sierra would pull the trailer as it is but yes I won't be towing it loaded up.

There is a fellow on this forum who mounted the axle above the springs thus lowering the height of the trailer.
I'm looking at a Trekmaster. It has the extra height.

Maybe not threads but there's quite a few comments that I've seen saying don't butcher the trailer sell it and buy a camper or the like. That camper top looks the good but for 2500 it's not my cup of tea. I was thinking about doing the spring under conversion however I like the height and ground clearance. I'll prolly remove a couple of the leaves to help it ride smoother.

Yeah probaly would but the hilux are a great and more then capable 4wd. Throw a locker in, mild lift some decent tread and some good navigation of tracks and they go the distance.
