I found the extension pourer was a extra mess which needs to be hosed and cleaned.
I favor the ones where you pour it straight out of the tank and be carefull doing it(some have a air valve to controll the flow), screwing the cap back on......no mess to clean
Another thing is spare parts.
The seals between the two halfs of the toilet need replacing from time to time ,as does the seals on the sliding valve.
The kids /women can break the siding valve handle by leaving it out and stepping on it, or mis handling the toilet etc.
On some toilets the sliding valve is worked via skinny round plastic rod which is easier to break that a broad plate plate arrangement right though.
Some models can be had with a 10 litre bottom tank instead of a 20 litre one.
The 10 litre option is worth while if the toilet is for very light useage...ie one woman, as 20 litres of poo is very heavy to carry round to the disposal point across the caravan park ,etc.
10 litre tanks give much lower seat height and not as comfortable.
Some thing else to watch out for is how the top tank is vented.
Some will leak out of the top tank on rough roads in the back of your 4by or trailer etc though the air vent..
I use the pink stuff in the top tank and blue stuff in the bottom.
The find the pink stuff stops the turds sticking to the bowl and this stops much cleaning work.
The 20 litre bottom tank as well as seat height has a advantage, in fact the taller the bottom tank the better, not from a more comfortable seating position, but one of turd and paper drop.
The taller the tank the better the spoils of your previous meals makes use of the space advailable of the bottom tank as it tends to sit on top of itself, rather than spread out in a flat tank.
Thanks all,
Some helpful hints there.
When checking them out at BCF, I also thought that the idea of an extension pipe for emptying was good for not splashing ones shoes but I also liked the cheaper brand which just had a huge big hole with screw lid. I thought with such a big opening, it's just gunna splurge (is that a word) outa there and not have time to get on my shoes or up my nose.
For those who care, I have been in the army for nearly 30 years and I remember in days of old, it was not unusual to 'open the bomb doors' where you stopped or sat. One of my faves was off the back of my fitters track (moving for extra points), or for double jeopardy, during a short break when securing ground (again on fitters track) waiting for the grunts to patrol on through.. We used to have a throne that we hung from the side, sorta looked like one was abseiling.
In our adventurous youth it was not uncommon to hang and relieve or evacuate from the open door of a mack. This was especially useful on the boring stuart highway runs. Stopping optional.
Anyway back to pottis, I understand the pink fluid, but BCF also have a choice of blue or green! Whats the diff? They seem to have the same chemical comp and same price. Thetford brand I think.
Cheers

I don't use those nasty chemicals any more.
Just a capful of Coles Nappy treatment in a1/2 litre of warm water is added to bottom tank only.I usually empty every 3 days a dash more can be added if needed on later day but I don't find it necessary.Breaks down to a slurry and is not so offensive to the nostrils. It's safe for septics.
The tank empties totally an is left clean. No need to rinse if water is scarce.
If you check the caravan forums or Exploroz you will see that this is now the most popular treatment -cheap too as 1 small jar lasts for ages.

Mary
