I just bought a Cub Drifter in NSW and re-registered it in VIC. NSW rego showed last 12 months rego was $150. In VIC, I had to determine of the ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass) was less than 750kg. That was the only criteria. If yes, then it met the requirements of a Light Trailer, rego equals $56, fill out a form, no inspection required. If more than 750kg, inspection required, more $$$. I took it that ATM equalled GVM and for the Cub Drifter that is 750kg.
NB; there was still 6 months rego in NSW, and a process to claim a partial refund that went something like this;
1. Pay to change over the rego in NSW.
2. Cancel the rego with a fee.
3. Fill out a manual Refund form and maybe you get some money back.
I called them and a helpful person who said the fees add up to $50, then I would get 6/12*150. About $75 back. I decided the hassle was not worth $25. FYI for others before going through the process to find its not worth it.
