Looking real nice, cant wait till i can get mine painted white to match my car,

yours seems to sit a lot lower than mine so you may not have the same issue, and you have those rear legs, but i was pulled over for an RBT and at the same time told that I needed mud flaps on the trailer due to the exposed tire. . . probably irrelevant on yours though given the lower height and the legs though.

also interested to see what you do for the top as im still struggling for how to do mine.

what you got in mind for the top?
As explained in an earlier post Inc ...... a hard top similar in style to the OE one, but not as high. Roof bars on that and the rooftop tent added. The idea is to make it high enough for us to walk under when the tent is erected but not as high as the rear of the Defender.

So rather than 2100 to under the tent, it will be more like 1820. This will make it easier to pack the tent up too, something I struggle with because I'm of normal height, not giraffe like

After discussing the roof with various people, I decided to bring the trailer to Brisbane and utilise the services of Harry Ho Har of "Series Landy Rescue".

A couple of BIG days later and the following was achieved.

    Main frame bows

Rear door top frame which will swing with tailgate

Frame all welded and etch primed

The start of sheeting the frame.

    Completed sheeting

With some fancy aluminium mouldings to finish the edges.

    On the trailer

To say I'm happy with the result would be an understatement. It's pretty much exactly as I planned and envisaged.

Thanks Harry. You do stirling work.

I wont be back home until the end of next week and then the door will be completed and other bits finished off and tent installed on roof. The light is getting brighter.

I almost forgot to mention that I had the trailer blue slipped last week. Thanks go to Ross (Carzee) for supplying me with previous rego details which made the reregistration process a whole lot easier.

Not a bad job for a 78 year old retired Numpty with too much time on his hands.

I guess we all wish we had the time and patience to build something as impressive as that trailer.

How is the suspension and will it handle the rough stuff? I am sure you didn't just build a show pony.

    Thanks maaaaate!

Suspension is tough as nails standard army fare. Heavy duty leaf pack same as all No 5's ie rated to carry 500kg over any terrain. The springs may be short, but it rides quite well.

Funny, I was thinking that it would be reasonably light, but at 320kg Tare and then 55 litres of water, spare wheel, 4.5kg gas cylinder, roof, roof racks and roof top tent, plus assorted camping paraphenalia the weight comes up a bit. Maybe an estimated 200 to 250kg on top of the Tare. Still, it will be much lighter than most of the overloaded affairs that traipse around the countryside. (my opinion of course)

When I get around to it he top will probably be white. Maybe with grey sides but probably not.

No hurry for that bit, but I'm trying to get the rest of it up and running by the end of next week.
