    Caravan tyres

When we bought the van it had 4 Duron LT 195 x 14 that were pretty shagged.
Towed exceedingly well with NO bad characteristics, recently we changed out the worst two tyres for a pair of Sava Metro's and stuck them as the rear pair.
Ever since then the van has an ever so subtle bum shake on a (sudden) trailing throttle. Due to tyre pressure vageries ( Damn Tyredogs!) and a round the fire chinwag at Glenreagh I swapped the tyres front to back. Instantly better! So much so I'm going to not match the new ones and again buy something different.
Anybody reccomend a 195 x14 LT, preferably something with more tread than air
and yes, I am glad I didnt buy 4....

In regards to your temps, keep in mind where the sun is in relation to the tyres - it does make a difference.

Tyre wise - on caravans I've always stuck with Desert Dueller LTs, but honestly that was years ago and I have no recent experience sorry.

    Cheers

Have you taken your brakes into account, they will always add temp to your tyre readings.

Also take cold tyre pressures and temps before the trip and then take the temps and pressures after as well, that will tell you if your pressures are OK, the 4 psi rule, it is only a guide but will give you an idea.

Personally I think 195 X 14 is too small for any van over 1.5tonne, I reckon 15s as a minimum and a decent LT tyre to suit.

    Baz.

unfortunately stuck with the tyre size --
I doubt the brake temps had much to do with it,, a straight run up the highway,, and I checked them( and bearings) for heat at every stop.

maybe I just need to bite the bullet and start them at 45,,

it does seem an awful lot

Get a decent tyre guage, those starting pressures are all over the shop and probably part of the problem

What are the recommended temps anyway??
    Cheers Baz.

    reccommended temps?
tyres have temp "ratings" but try and get anyone to actually put a degree figure on it!!
I have sort of settled on the G26's(though am yet to actually put my hand on one--)
suffice to say the salesman will be asked LOTS of technical questions!!

After some thought Baz, your comment on tyre sizes is probably a factor,, (glad its not a single axle!!) thats why I'm looking at solid shoulders and solid straight longitudinal ribs.
Might just start at two though

Gday Pedro, mate when we had our Kedron we changed the tyres to the Nankangs LT they where a cross of road and offroad, I had them sorted for me from Bearepairs when back in Brisbane. The choice was made because they had the load and speed rating, from memory 45psi fully loaded. In all honesty we could not have had a better tyre and we did around 30k klm's on them and still in very good nick when we sold her. Iam sorry I can not remember the sizes, they where 15" wheels but that is it . Ill try and see if I can find some info online that rings a bell
