I have the Engel version of what you have. I have found them not so good when the head unit is more than a meter or so from the fridge.

When you turn the fridge on I find the thermometer works up to about 6m but as the temp in the fridge gets lower the efficiency of the batteries in the sender unit drops right off and the remote distance reduces with the weaker signal do just over a meter. In fact if the freezer temp is right down the sensor signal will drop right off. If you take the sensor out of the fridge all comes back on as the sensor warms up.

Overall I found the performance of these quite disappointing. I usually leave the remote sitting on top of the fridge and it usually works OK but I did buy it so I could monitor fridge temp from the cars cabin while driving but it will not do that.

What - have you found the same? In reality they do work as well as a wired thermometer and if not running as a deep freezer the remote does work few meters away.

In testing and playing around with mine I really found how temps in the fridge vary. I have a cheap 55l and a cheap 25l fridge - the big one will get down to -19 at the bottom of the fridge but the top only gets to -13. The 25l fridge will only get down to -16 at the bottom and is -10 at the top. I ma thinking about adding portable computer fans to circulate the cold air a bit better when these are being used as freezers.

I find it easier not to put lettuce in there in the first place.... The primary use is always for the drinks. Meat also, as it doesn't matter if it ends up semi frozen. Maybe a small container of milk, and that's about it. If anyone I go out with wants a salad, they can go and pick what they want out of the bush for all I care, it definitely won't be found clogging up perfectly good beer space.
