Talk the wife into a newish second hand camper.

There is a awesome Tambo camper on there for around $7k would be much better than a new one of similar price.
The wife and I are looking at buying a camper trailer, we want something that is Brand new, can sleep 2 adults, and 3 little kids, easy to set up and tows well,
the hard part is we only really want to spend around 7 grand,
I have a few mates with Market Direct Campers and there generally happy with them,
can anyone suggest anything I may have overlooked in that price range and brand new?
wife is insisting brand new, I think so I don't get to spend all my spare time tinkering

as above, buy a well built used one, you will be doing a lot more than tinkering with a cheap new one...there are lots of those to choose from scattered all over this wide land, abandoned due to failures...
the cheap trailer industry has all but ruined our heavy duty true offroad camper industry in this country, where people look to price first, quality and design second.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Gotta agree don't discount the second hand market........
Some of these new ones seem to have a ridiculous amount of canvas......more canvass mean more weight and longer set up time
I haven't checked out the vast number of imports but you seem to get a lot camper for your $$ if you're just doing light work up and down the hi way than they are probably OK.....I see quite a few MDC's on the road
Obviously horses for courses etc ...
But this is right - some are a real Taj Mahals which would take an hour to erect and pack up (fancy doing that in the dark).
In many (if not most) cases I wonder if these c/ts get enough use to justify the extra expense on quality. Therefore there are a number of higher quality items on the 2nd hand market (eg. that Tambo one above mentioned and the site is myswag.org if you want to look it up FOR SALE: 2010 Tambo Cooper Camper trailer $7500 Priced to Sell - it's been there for long enough for it to be negotiable).
gotta agree, I umm and hrr'd for ages on my camper trailer purchase........
was going to go a hard floor.....but when it come down to price and the number of times it would get used I couldn't justify those dollars sitting in the garage all year...I try and do one two week trip a year than maybe 3 or 4 weekends
soooo......I build my own with a $6k budget, I think it will always be a work in progress as I slowly changing/upgrading depending on where the two week trip takes us
As everyone has rightly said... $7000 will buy you a fairly crap new camper trailer, but it will also buy you a nice second hand, well proven, well built camper trailer. A friend has just bought an Adelaide built Trak Shak Camper. He paid a little over your budget for it, and its immaculate. Sleeps 6, takes all of 5 min to set up (once you know what's what), came with a host of extras inc a kitchen, boxes, cutlery, etc etc etc. Your money would be wisely spent on a decent s/h trailer over one of these poorly built 'semi off road' things you see in the Fourby Mags. Let us know how you go, and good luck talking SWMBO around this one!! Remember, mattresses etc are easily steam/dry cleaned, and or renewed thru places like Clarke Rubber.![]()

I bought a brand new C/T for $5200 from a mob in Melb. they normally sell for around $7/8K it was their showroom model.
This is a Chinese built trailer and assembled here in Australia.
I figured I would have a look and see how badly they were built (Chinese that is) and was surprised to see good welding, good fittings and fully galvanised chassis, seven leaf military style springs, shocks, 10" electric brakes, water tank and pump.
Body panels were 2 layer aluminium panels with insulation between all alloy doors and cam over locks with auto type pinch rubber seals (have had no leaks of dust or water).
Large utility box on A frame with gas struts, Brand new spare rim and tyre, rock guard and Treg off road hitch, handbrake and drop down wheel.
Canvas is rip stop type and seems strong enough, camper is hard floor fold down (to rear) and has winch on drawbar to wind floor back up. Takes about 5 mins. to setup (with out annex, which comes with walls and floor), once floor is folded out you go inside and push up the centre and end poles and it's ready to sleep in, floor area has ample room to set up bunks for kids, bed is queen size and innerspring, I found this mattress to wide and heavy so replaced it with lighter and narrower dunlopillo bed.
Slide out kitchen (stainless steel) has 4 burner gas stove and sink with swivel tap and drain. Draw on drivers side has battery and charger in a slide out s/s draw, I transferred the battery and charger to utility box on drawbar, lights are LED. The quality build of this trailer is so much better than trailers I have seen (GIC for instance) costing 2 to 4 times more, I have made a few mods costing under $500 but I am still way ahead.
A friend has a C/T the same as mine, except for some better battery and charging set up and a fancy set of side decals and nice alloy wheels and he paid $26,000, so if you want Australian make sure it was actually built here and not put together here and some fancy stuff added to pad out the price, Regards Frank.
