more bits
Hi All
I must first acknowledge Bundelene on the forum for giving me the inspiration for this project .This trailer was built for a cape trip in Sept 2012.Not wanting to get to our destination to find a cracked hull or the boat shaken to bits or a damaged outboard ,we (my son and i) built the trailer and incorperated a few other ideas to preserve the important bits so we could enjoy our fishing and touring and thumb our nose at the corragations and generally poor roads.
I sourced a rangerover rear end with all the upper and lower arms for the price of a carton of good beer.I have only just pulled it apart this month to get all the parts galvanized, they were getting a bit of surface rust after 2 years of use.I had all the parts sand blasted and anything with a thread was plugged with high temp silicone to minimize the galvanizing sticking and ran a tap down the holes after.
When travelling long diatances or on bad roads the outboard is mounted to the false floor of the boat using eye bolts and ratchet straps.I hope this will helps anyone else contemplating a trip into remote areas. here's a few before and after shots.
