If the Anderson Plug is giving no problems, run the 7 core along the same route and tape it to the heavier wires.. Have enough extra to reach the tow vehicles socket...![]()
Hi all
Trailer plugs cause me a lot of grief, every time I take my trailer off road be it camping, dirt roads, dragging fire wood out the Bush. I am forever destroying plugs on the trailer side. My plug on the D1 is mounted in the bumper out the way. I am currently using a 9 pin round plug, iv tried running the lead various ways and and directions. Remembering to leave enough for articulating and corners but I also have an Anderson plug on the landy and trailer and never had a problem with that. Was wondering about trying the flat type plug found on newer vehicles ??? Any thoughts would be appreciated

Bring the cable from the trailer body, along one arm of the draw bar. Secure it with cable ties or something stronger about every 300mm. Bring it up through the opening near the coupling, then through the handle of the coupling pull-up release. It then goes to the socket. This way the cable is up out of the dirt.
When detaching from the vehicle, place the free end (plug end) over the top of the handle and if available put the plug in the dummy storage socket, or drape it so that it sits well clear of the ground. The trailer should have a jockey wheel to keep the nose out of the mud. This also helps to keep a loose plug from getting caught under the coupling.
Make the lead the last to connect, first to disconnect.

Funny my 7 pin flat trailer plug has never given a problem in 8 years as it has a positive stop/lock mechanism.
However I have met 2 people who have had anderson plugs come unplugged as they don't have a positive stop/lock mechanism.
I was in Supercheap the other day and they sell a HD 2 pin with a positive stop/lock mechanism.

As sitec and rovers4 said this is pretty much how iv tried a couple of times still no joy but thank you for the input
