A friend of mine locally bought a s/h Trak Shak for the same reasons. Its the second he's owned, and he loves it. I've seen it a few times, and think its a great setup too. Loads of space for sensible pennies.![]()
Just purchased a 2000 model Trak Shak with the 3 queen sized births and I am very happy with it. Has 2 under slung 60 litre water tanks with electric pumps, room for 9 20 litre jerry cans, 4kg gas bottle, detachable built in kitchen, and plenty of storage.
Perhaps a little heavier than I would have liked however both the Prado and the Rangie tow it we'll on the semi flat but need to drop to second on the steepest hills. The Prado will need a chip (diesel), the Rangie will see light duties only.
Does anyone else here have experience with using/towing these? With 4 kids I don't think that I could have made a better choice for the money.

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
29th of December and still no photos???
Met a school teacher in the outback with one and he loved it until he got to Port Augusta. He left the caravan park but returned 10 mins later????
Bloody thing ate his wallet. One of the inner pockets contained his wallet but he didn't notice until he got to the servo. A quick erection to retrieve his wallet and he was off again.
Looks like a great setup for a family.

Oooooh errrrrr, I had forgotten about this.....
Some pics of our last trip.
I will post some more detailed pics after our next trip over the October long weekend.
Still working through the improvements to make it work for us. Having 4 boys and 2 dogs it is a tight squeeze to fit everything in. We have a tow hitch receiver on the back which holds up to 4 bikes and I am looking to put another on the front so I can have 3 x 3. I am also looking at putting a storage box across the A-frame but this must be detachable so that I can access and open the front swing door. Maybe chequerplate flooring with some fixed angles/brackets to drop the box into (if there is room under the swing door) otherwise a slide, or just holes and straps but this is not ideal.
I am also debating a fixed or detachable solar panel. The flexible panels are getting better and don't require direct sunlight but the Redarc one I looked at was Exy. The 'rack' has a placeholder for a fixed panel but this restricts trailer positioning at site. There will be a pole holder across and under the rear (or two), privacy screen between the top bunks, led lighting inside and out, a couple of multi-directional led spots, and I might enclose and waterproof one of the corner jerry can holding areas for extra kit.
The wish list is growing, and growing, and growing......
I fitted 3 solar panels to the tinny rack on my trak shak. I also made an approx ten meter extension cable with anderson plugs either end (heavy twin flex cable). If I put the camper under shade I undid the pivot bolts holding the panels to the dingy frame, connected in the extension cable and moved the panels out into the sun. Worked a treat.
