    Trailer lights

Which colour wire would activate the breaklights on my trailer?? I had to rewire them at the weekend and when checking them only the driving lights and indicators would work and not the brake lights, even though it is a double filament bulb.
All the wires from the trailer are connected so i'm at a loss.

    Hope someone can help.

If the trailer is wired correctly the RED wire is for the brake lights

Try this for a 7 pin

or this for a 5 pin

This should solve your trailer problems

on normal 7 core trailer wire it is usually

    yellow, left flasher
    black, reverse or auxillary power
    white, earth
    green, right flasher
    blue, electric brakes/service brakes
    red, brake lights
brown, park/tail lights (On a round 7 pin, its the centre pin)

On this subject, I'm resurrecting a '73 Viscount caravan. How does one go
about getting a 12 volt supply to the 'van for the 12 volt interior lights

Doesn't appear to enough pins in the plug spare, or do I use the pin marked
ÁUX'? I thought that was for electric brakes....................

It's wired as above with a flat 7 pin plug, and I fitted new combination & number plate lights today, rego is due in two weeks.

You can use it for elec-brakes or direct power to the van,

you only need to wire it up to suit

I personally would leave it for the elec brakes and run

an independent wire of 4-6mm fused directly off the spare battery

with an "Anderson plug" at the rear of the vehicle

Thanks 84RR, I'll check it out. My van has overrun brakes. I can't see where in or on the van to wire the 12 volts to, there's only a 240v inlet on the drivers'side and a 240v outlet on the passenger side where the annexe goes. Do you think I should talk to an auto sparky? 8O

    Cheers Scott.

If you have a 3way fridge fitted

check where the wires come into the van,

that should tell you if it has been wired up for power ex-vehicle

It could also have a battery tray fitted under one of the seats

    Thanks 84RR,
Fridge says gas or 240V..........maybe the 12 volt lighting isn't wired up? I had a look today and there are 12V globes in the fittings as well as the 240V ones.
I'll have a look for a battery box or similar and see how it works out.
