Andy, what size van are you looking at anyway? On road, off road? Budget? Are you willing to travel to pick it up?
Depends on what you want out of your van. We converted the front bunks in our little 16' Franklin to an ensuite. As there are only ever going to be 2 of us in it, it worked for us. You lose the couch space these bunks also make, but there is still the dining area seats. We only ever sit inside the van when it's raining anyway, so that didn't bother us either.
There must be a similar design to our van in a modern off roader somewhere I would have thought that would allow you to do this.
Keep looking, there will be something out there.![]()

Babs.
It would have to be off-roadable or easily converted to.Deb will definately want/need the ensuit Pedro.
Budget, who knows???? Would need to sell my boat or find a swap/trade.
Travel, yep,I have the vehicle to do many miles in comfort and economy.
Not in a big hurry,I still have to come to terms with selling the boat, despite it not been used for 2 years.
I think I would prefer a tandem over a single axle.

You already have one of the better tugs out there,
The trick is getting one that somebody loved, styling and age play second fiddle to involvement every time.

After my "new" van's first proper outing I'm very pleased with its towing ability - on the Newell at truck speed of 100 kph and narrower back-roads at 80-90 kph without oncoming vehicles dropping wheels off the road made for easy travelling. Strong crosswinds at 100 kph are felt but don't cause any instability. I have to remember that even though its not wide, it is tall and long when turning sharply around trees looking for the best spot to park - its not my box trailer!
The combination of the RR's super brakes and 4-wheel van brakes operated by a Redarc tow-pro in proportional mode on a very stable caravan allowed for some very short stopping distances from around 100 kph when realising quite late that taking a side-road was the preferred route, even allowing time to re-check for no following vehicles. Subsequent reviewing of dash-cam video shows just how late the decisions to stop were made, in one instance after the start of the short turning lane. Its good to know that the rig will stop quickly if necessary - certainly more quickly than trucks and probably too quickly for following drivers to react without some prior warning.
