Thread: brake controller that wouldnt mind being in a series ii

Just a thought bubble, but if you're going to tow it with more than one vehicle, would you be up to fitting a trailer mounted brake controller - we are about to install a system like this on a large trailer mounted generator at work so a controller isn't needed for the tow vehcile. The unit we are looking at has a Bluetooth control panel that is moved from vehicle to vehicle and runs on 2 AA batteries to adjust the brakes and to operate them manually. No wires needed in any tow vehicle, just a 12 volt supply on the trailer though - this can be the breakaway battery, but it would need to be charged more regularly than normal, or hooked to a small solar panel.

Not sure what they cost yet, but maybe an option?

my other tow vehicle already has a controller

i thought about an on caravan unit so

1) not seen the bluetooth unit, will have to go have a peep

2) i also noticed that by the time you muck around with extra batteries and wiring it costs more than the 140 bucks something like a tekonsha voyager and harness costs... (how well they work i am not sure as yet either)

off to go do some more investigation...

IT even uses standard connectors so if you want to be really really cheap about it you can just make extension cables to fit the once cradle to multiple vehicles

Tekonsha IQ will do that too .... for a fraction of the cost

very cheap for what they are. I wouldn't trust anything that is wireless ... yuk, it would be sure to fail at the exact moment you desperately needed it to work!

It is perfect for the application we need it in - hiring it to multiple people who won't have a brake controller fitted.

I run quite a few wireless systems at work of varying types - I've never had one just stop working for no reason, but I see your point - wouldn't want the first time to be when I had a van starting to tail slap.

stick a wireless backup camera to your car ... and see how hopeless they are .................. Just as you back towards the hitch ............ bye, bye picture

Ah, yes - but I wouldn't spend $50 on a wireless system....

Last one cost me over $2K - and I get 15KM line of sight with that one, and around 3KM in hilly or built up areas.

If i changed tow vehicle it would be a Red Arc Tow Pro that can be set to full manual for off road use and full auto for on road use. Plus its Aust tech with Red Arc's usual great support (no i dont work for them).
