Your comments about QT apply ti NSW RTA. My previous Hillman was registered as a Chrysler Unknown.

My son got pulled over by the cops - they'd done a rego check and the rego came back as Chrysler. Now this copper knew it was a Hillman Hunter so...

My son had to show him all over the car to prove that there was no Hillman badging anywhere and that the owner's handbook showed Chrysler Hunter.

Chrysler Australia has dropped the Hillman name in 1971 - the year this car was made.

A friend's father-in-law had problems registering his 1903 Cadillac because the RTA said Cadillac had never produced cars in that year.

Equally, when we went to insure our Hillman Minx, the NRMA wouldn't insure it without an inspection 'cos we said its paint was two tone. The NRMA insisted that no one made cars with two tone paint therefore we must have had it repainted.

That's the problem with computer databases, the info is often incomplete but the people using them insist that if it's on/not on the 'puter, then that's it.

I'll bet that GT40 owner was less than thrilled. Would make it interesting come an insurance claim...

Ron - a 1903 Cadillac :?: Very nice. Now if only I knew where it was and had a car trailer... I'd never get caught... after all how can you half-inch something that doesn't exist :!: :?:

Antaine: I am interested by your comment re the nato hitches opening. While I will leave the pin in (there's certainly no reason not to) I am unsure how the thing would open by itself - it needs a fairly positive action to open it. Perhaps on really rough ground where things are bouncing all over the place ?

Presumably with pin in place there are no such problems ?

I have never seen a pintle hook trailer secured additionally with a chain (as ball coiuplings often are) so I figure they must be pretty secure !

How about this for interesting rego?

My 130 is registered with a gross combined mass of 6.4 tonne. That's not towing, that's the truck and the 4 tonne I can put on the back, sides, roof, anywhere I can fit it.

RTA didn't seem to notice that at that weight I'd also need a heavy vehicle license to drive.

As someone said, on a dual cab tray, I'd have to be carrying gold to get 4t to fit.

    Cheers

    Simon,

Just to be a complete dork.....I hate nerds that leave posts espousing their uninteresting wisdom :x correcting everything, :!: or using the word actually all the time....but

GCM is actually Gross Combination Mass. This is the combination of your vehicle's weight (fully loaded) + total towing load etc.

GVM is Gross Vehicle Mass - weight of vehicle + full load

GTM - Gross Trailer Mass - same but for a trailer

So GVM + GTM = GCM

Just thought I'd enlighten you. Although they never get weights right either!!!Or they record em incorrectly

Damn, FenianEel, you're right, hate to be caught out. You can tell how long it is since I got my heavy licence.

Just checked the rego papers and it has 6.4t for both GVM and GCM.

    Cheers

    Simon.

    Actually haha

See told you they never get it right.

That means you can load up probably 4 1/2 ton in your 130, but you can't tow anything!?!

Just to add to the reputation of the NSW RTA - despite my protests my 2a ute is registered as a tabletop because according to the RTA Landrover made no other model in that year. I have sent them a photo of it, but it seems that without Landrover telling them that utes were actually made in 1970, their hands (or rather databases) are tied. The error in the Aggregate Weight turns out to be an admitted software error with the contractor who prints their renewal notices - it comes out correct if printed by the RTA themselves. (A recent attempt to get quotes from a number of insurance companies for insurance on it reveals that according to many insurance companies Landrover made no vehicles before 1976 - so I stuck with the current insurer - they were cheaper anyway. I only have third party property on it; I have considered getting comprehensive since doing it up, but the specialist insurers will not look at it since it is registered for primary production.

Last year, after years of protests by me, I finally got the RTA to inspect my 110 and agree that it really is a nine seater and described as an "omnibus" on the compliance plate - and furthermore was made in 1986 not 1985 as they had insisted for years. What is more, I invoiced them and they paid for my trip into town for the inspection.
