Tong Tilt Top for Dual Cab

    http://www.tongbox.com.au/aluminium-slide-on-camper/

Hi all, ive been looking for this or similar style for some time.
If money was no problem id probably look at the latest DC4 from Travelander, but... honestly the price is getting ridiculous especially compared against same spec Camper Trailer. ie no wheels, brakes lights, tow frames etc. Im not seeing value for money for my purposes.
    Anyhow.. thoughts.Comments
Im off to the camping show in Darwin for a final comparison in a couple of weeks.

The price is relatively good in comparison to most other slide-ons and I like the light weight/simplicity/corrosion resistance. A good basic setup with plenty of scope for customisation.

Would have to try in the flesh, but I'd be looking to see how much foot room there is at the front (assuming sleeping feet to front) and it looks like a bit of a contortion to stoop at the top of the stairs to get through the hobbit sized door. Probably still easier than trying to climb into a RTT.

This is not a Tong but a home built flip top camper.
    The camper/canopy body is 2.4m long x 1.8m wide & total hight of 900mm.
the bed area is 2.250 long x 1.650 x 80mm for the mattress with 70mm of free space above the bed side the roof for pillows & bedding.

This was built for a work mate as an exercise on building a one off.

Im happy as is the owner.

    That looks good.
If I had access to the equipment I'd consider making one,
How much did this cost, if you don't mind that is?

As it sits now about $4K

It's never cheap doing a 1 off but great statisfaction of building something that you drew & it all works how it should.

I'm lucky a good mate has a fabrication shop & I am allow d to use the gear free after hours.

strangy, have a go & you get what you really want.

    Cheers

Well after a few weeks of the usual second guessing and double checking, I veered off the tilt design altogether.
We found and purchased a 2nd hand Utility Campers C190 which ticked all the boxes and provides us with a greater capacity than the tilt options ie space, features and comfort more suited to our current and potential requirements.
Now to safely ship to Alice.
