    Andy,,,, some info

    Gday Andy,
I can't find the thread concerned with this, it may have been deleted (?).
A little while ago you asked if my trailer had wheel spacers on it. Short answer, no.
I don't believe any of the Ezytrail campers have them from what I've seen, but mine, a Coorong GT, certainly doesn't have them.
I haven't measured anything, but the wheel track of both the cars (Deffa and Disco), are very similar to the wheel track of the trailer.

Nothing gets deleted unless it contravenes the Rules of Access,, and even then its still here,, just not on show...
If it was posted after the 13th of last month then it was not in the backup used to restore the site.

    are spacers allowed on trailers?

    Gday Pedro,
I wasn't thinking you guys deleted it, just lost at the site change over,,, all good

Legalities of the spacers on trailers,,, that I believe may have actually been the question at hand.
My own personal view is it would be OK on a trailer, but as we all know, it's illegal on cars etc. I'm guessing with vehicles, looking at things like steering and braking stresses involved, this is why they can't be used, and in my opinion I agree.
A trailer, well, the wheels just follow along, but, there's still stresses on suspension with compression etc, and braking as well, especially if it's a larger type trailer, so maybe they are considered illegal on a trailer too.

Hopefully someone who's good at fact finding through the Govt sites can dig out some info for us.

Wheel track is more important the heavier the trailer,, which of course makes spacers "worser"

    Cop that sentence Ron!!

My Sankey has 1/2" spacers on it to get the clearance needed for the new tyres. It was mentioned in a post after that they may have been illegal but no evidence to prove this either way.

A couple of pics,I hope it shows what I'm talking about. There were a few dearer trailers that used a very similar suspension. The dearer units had different alloy wheels with a deeper dish that sat flush on the drums.
These single axle trailers are rated at over 2000kg.I wouldn't be happy with an alloy wheel spaced from the drum. The spacer seems to be cast with the drum.

I might have to have a closer look at mine Andy to see if that's how they are. I was merely looking for a separate spacer when I looked at mine.

I think it will depend on what type of spacers they are, if they are just an alloy/metal ring with holes that fit between wheel and hub i dont think there should be an issue.
The other type that use your studs for mounting/locating then have secondary studs for the wheels is more likely a legality issue.

They are a casting on the brake hub.IF it was a circle that allowed the cheap chinese alloy to sit flush against the hub,I don't think there would be an issue. There is a 40 to 50 mm extrusion on each wheel stud, probably 25x25mm.
When we were camping,Aaron said he was worried about the rims as there were reports of them "exploding" on the net.I spotted the hub setup whilst looking at the undercarridge the next day.Must say the suspension looks to be overkill and the welding was reasonable.
