    Water Water everwhere---

    Try this quick quiz,,,
you have around 22 feet of caravan to play with,,
    You must have
    A. a fresh water tank
    B. a grey water tank
    C. a black water tank

For the sake of argument we'll be using the tank below, even though 80 litres of water is not enough--

    The question is-
how do you arrange the tanks?

    D2 :--< B C A
    ??

think about weight transfer over time--
(also about placement either side of twin axles--)

I understand there is only 9 permutations,,
and I am fairly sure the correct answer depends on the individual van--
    but say we disregard axles--

    which way?
    and why?

As fresh water is used, grey and black increase so I would put the fresh in the middle where its range of levels will have no effect on front or rear weight. As grey volume should increase faster than black I would put the grey towards the front because heavier at the front is less of a problem than heavier at the rear.

    Excellent!
obviously the grey tank is only used as required
In reality I think the black and grey will only be half that size, a 40l black water tank would still take us two weeks to fill, if we never left the van!
and 40l grey, would not take long, but we dont tend to stay long in places where grey water is a problem,
and we still need to increase water capacity,

so now we can have a second water tank, D, also 80L

    --< A B/C D ?

    and use D first?

Mine has 2 fresh water tanks, 1 in front and 1 behind the axles but currently they're paralleled so empty at about the same rate and therefore don't change the balance. However I want to isolate them but haven't given much thought to how not to affect the balance without continuously swapping between the 2. However as 1 is just forward of the front axle and the other just behind the rear axle, totally emptying 1 with the other full would induce an inbalance of probably only 1/3 the weight of a tank of water at the front or rear of the van, which I consider would be quite insignificant.

I have 2x60l tanks back & front of the axle & around 100l grey in 2 linked tanks right at the back. The order of tanks usage is usually left front first then left back followed by the right tanks in the same order. I do my best not to travel too far with full grey water tanks but have never experienced any instability with them full.
