    Trailer Hitch

I have an 03 Disco V8 with the standard towing hitch. I am also oping to mate this to an old Army trailer with a ring coupling mechanism. Does anyone know if or where I can get the mating half for the DIsco? You know, mounted on the box section like the standard ball is so it can be removed etc.

If you have a standard Hayman-Reece type receiver it's easy.

Acquire yourself a NATO hitch (the part that mates with the pintle hook on the trailer). Inc or one of the REMLR guys can point you in the right direction if you don't already have one.

Then most trailer shops will have a range of adaptors - they are essentially the square section tube that slides into the HR receiver with a plate welded to them at right angles (it should also be gusseted for extra strength). These are usually available pre-drilled and the Hitch should bolt straight up ! I have done this for mine and it allows me to tow the trailer behind either the Defender or the Rangie - very successfully.

The unit (due to the NATO hitch being so heavy duty) is pretty heavy though.

If you NEED pictures let me know and I'll snap a few though as mines already bolted up I can only take a pic of the finished item.

    Cheers

Since when is a ring described as a 'hook' Vlad? Is someone off their meds?

Well let's see Vlad, we have two items variously described as 'pintle hook' or 'NATO hitch'. Hmmmm...so shall we call the hook like object a 'NATO Hitch' and the ring shaped object a 'pintle hook'?

I'm not sure than even the Army is that whacked but Vlad, you go right ahead and call them what you will

P.S. When I was a baby 109 (driver) the term 'NATO hitch' served to describe the entire affair, both hook and ring. Of course, that may have been the personal thoughts of the Warrant Officer Class One who was Senior Instructor for my course and the main man issuing push-ups in lots of 50 for calling things by the wrong name

Here's mine. It's a UK military unit made by Dixon-Bate (Chester, England) fitted to a standard 2" Hayman Reese tongue. The hook can swivel 360 degrees once you have released the clamp (pinned) at the bottom. It is fantastic offroad because of this - as it has total freedom of movement in all directions.

I believe that it's called the "Pintle Hook". The ring on the towed item is usually known as a "Lunette Ring".

    Cheers
