Found Caravan Queensland website......they are doing checks at a number of towns across Queensland.
Free Caravan Safety Checks

It'd be nice if all states did this, and on a regular basis too, and it would be good if those who checked would "load up for touring" before going for a check.
I guess though, a lot of vans will/would head up to QLD for holidays, hence why they are doing it, so unless said person is a local, I guess a lot would be in the middle of touring maybe (??) already, which would be a good thing.
I'm wondering if you have to be a member of caravaning Queensland.....I didn't read the whole article. Although just thinking they probably sign up me members at the free inspection
Great idea. I'd like to see something similar for trailer boats as I reckon there'd be a few blokes that would get a surprise. The other thing that I'm looking at, given that the Duty of care thread was mentioned in the OP, is those that are "over" are allowed to drive away without rectifying the problem.
There's no doubt that the risk of a penalty would undermine the campaign. Imagine if the authorities pulled off a gig like this,
Motorists caught up in petrol theft police operation Yahoo7 News , at a service centre on one of the major highways. What I was getting at in respect to duty of care is that in the event of a mishap further down the road, that exercise could turn into a dead set can of worms. On the other side of it, I suppose it's similar to being given a warning for a smooth tyre or having a light out and being allowed to drive away in good faith that you'll get it fixed.
