Remove the bulky foam mattress and put an inflatable mattress in a swag and it rolls up to half the size. As a bonus they are quite a bit more comfortable.

A small tarp, or large communal one, for the swags to be setup under manages heavy rain quite well.

    All adds cost though.

OK, some more thought & ideas have gone into this.
SWMBO has decided that Dome Swages are out, she wants the kids in the camper, end off.

Chrisbbarns has sent me a link to a mob called Sargent Camper Trailers.
    Very interesting, they have 1 called a V4 & a V4 ALPHA.
Either of these (with the optional rooms) looks quite good, large enough, tough enough but would need some set up time. SWMBO is not concerned over set up time as she reckons that's my job.

Has anybody heard of this brand? What do you think of them?

I think I will give them a ring tomorrow, find out what's included, the link tells me how it's made but doesn't tell me if it comes with water tank, what is the power set up if any & so on, to work out a total price I need that sort of info.
Also, due to our location all those things mean time & travel to be added or done.

We are quite serious about trying to find a good camper trailer but SWMBO is also quite serious we won't be wasting money (We own a Land Rover??), no sense of fun.

I've narrowed it down to Blue Water and Guardian camper trailers, but the new cost is higher than your budget.

    Is hire an option?

Hey, have you thought about hiring a trailer to see if it is actually what you want to get? There are a number if places around Australia that do it...

I don't think that there would be too many camper trailer hire joints in Doomadgee

Have you had a poor experience with these? Who would you recommend for a similar type?

Have you thought about a caravan with a walled annex instead of a camper trailer?
We had an old Jayco Swan that was only about 14 foot folded up but when popped up and out it had 2x double beds and 3x single beds in it and the option (Using the table) to turn 2x singles into another double bed.
It also had a stove, a fridge and kitchen sink in it.
The annex was a PITA to put up be I recon you could fit 7 kids in there easily.
Just a thought and a decent second hand one of these wont cost the earth either.
