    New trailer

I initially posted this in general chat, but no one has replied, and as I will be towing with a defender, thought I'd try here...

We are currently looking at buying a trailer from TMR trailers and as we are a couple thousand km away from them, was wondering if anyone here has one, or even knows of the business?

    Cheers James

What is it about TMR trailers that draws you to them?

I haven’t purchased a trailer in over 20 years. My next trailer I will make myself. Anything using something other than override brakes gets a bit pricey and I want something tailored to my needs and I have a few bits I want to use.

Hope you get some responses soon.

    New trailer

TMR Trailers comes up as locates in Brisbane....and no website or is there another location with a website?

It looks like you’re in South Aus.....I’m guessing you could get a trailer closer.

What are your requirements/spec for the trailer?

Yeah they are in Brisbane, and I'm in S.A, my brother found them and got a quote just out of interest, it was really competitive....
We are after a fully legal (obviously) 3.5 tonne flatdeck 7x14 , down around here probably looking at $14k, plus stock crate, which I think is a lot, however I also know the expense of the elec brake axles and labor and steel etc.... Have tossed up building ourselves but pretty busy atm, so just looking around

I had interesting experience getting a 10 x 6 box trailer built by a small "business" on the central coast. It ended up being reasonably priced for what I got but it did prove that good welders don't necessarily make good businessmen.

It ended up being registered with a 3.5 tonne GVM but the bloke making it didn't realise that it needed 4 wheel brakes so I got those for free, I'm not sure he made much money from it and I suspect He folded shortly after I dragged him to the consumer affairs tribunal to get either my trailer or the deposit back.

There seems to be a heap of cheap trailers around rated at 2 tonne with override brakes, as soon as you want to go over that they seem to get inordinately expensive given that the difference is really only electric hubs and a battery box.

Have a good shop around before you buy, there were a couple of mobs in Sydney that seemed to do enough volume to be reasonably priced and weren't scared by the extra capacity requirement.

    Regards,

Size wise yes only 7x4. But surely these could be re-engineered for load capacity.

Load capacity is dependent on a lot of things. Not least of which are the suspension, axles, wheels, tyres. Over 2 tonnes needs breakaway system, 4 wheel braking, By the time you added all that to an existing trailer, you may as well build one from scratch that is better aligned with what you need it for.
A read of VSB1 (linked in an earlier thread) will give the necessary details.
