Why does it seem excessive?

Hi all,
Just bought an oztent 420 cruiser tent and it states you need to "condition" the tent to ensure its water proof. So I did. I figured it might leak a little but the fly let a lot of water in. The instructions state you need to repeat the process until it doesn't leak but this seems excessive.
Anyone else had any experience with these tents?

I had this experience with a new camper trailer top a few years back; I was appalled by how much water it let in when I hosed it down as instructed to condition the new canvas. Sure enough, when we next got it wet, it kept the rain out. So panic not.
We always wet anew tent or swag and then rub the seams with soap

The two tents and the awning I've had previously never let in this much water!
This is a lightweight "canvas" rather than whatever they use for the dome tents - I didn't think it was actually Canvas but maybe it is!
My plan is oztents sealer if there are any continual leaks.
Soap is only there to help the water penetrate and make the material swell to fill the holes made by the needle
You don’t need much soap, just a quick wipe with the dry bar

Well, I've wet it down 3 times now and it still leaks everywhere. Through the material, through the seams both tent and fly.
Not very happy![]()
