The plug you are after is a merit plug there are 2 versions available...
and be warned these things if used on trucks/europe are normally the 24 v side of business, be carefull lending your gear

1. PP-2090, the standard plug. $5
2. PP-2092, the socket with the flip top lid $9
3. PP-2094, the merit with normal, not as heavy duty but ok for fluros and the like $5.5

All costs drop about 10% at 4+ and about 20% at 10+

I use the 32v plugs, they are sort of like a 2 prong wall plug but have the pins rotated 90degrees in relation to each other.Much better engagement, much higher amps rating Jaycar doesnt have them, (yet/anymore) Dick smiths does, sorry I dont have the catolog for them.

the setup I have is a result of the guys who did the second battery install goofing.. (Actually the dealer told them the wrong thing)

I was ment to get a single 32v plug in the back for fridges and the like and a power feed to the trailer in the trailer plug itself What I got was a pair of the sockets your chasing, when I went and spoke to them I got the full appology, do I have 30 minutes to have a coffee and browse their shop while they fix the error.

as the trailer now generally carries my solar panels battery and charging generator theres a fuse holder on the trialer side too

I now have what they put in the first time AND what I asked for..

How good are the TJM guys in townsville... good coffee too.

I have seen the 32v sockets but I want a couple of flush mounted sockets on the outside of the trailer so I think the merit sockets would be best.
2 will only have 1A lights plugged in, 1 will be for the 3A pump for the shower and the other will be for the Engel but only after we have stopped. Even the Engel only draws 2A so the Merit should be fine.

the merit will be fine although have a look at the tip of them, nice rounded or pointy..

not good in combination with dust/mud ingress the flat blade of the 32v lug eliminates that problem..

the dirty contact will lead to poor conductivity reducing battery life and stressing other bits and pieces... Given a long enough period the point can get hot enough to weld itself together, melt the plastic or hot enough to kill the fuse if your using super fast blows (fuse of choice for items I might be leaving)


I would suggest refinishing the tip of the plug and making a plastic tool to wipe the socket side tip contact with...

I learnt the hard way after killing the socket by leaving the fridge in the camper hooked up to it, came back and the low voltage cut out had done its job and I couldnt get the plug out of the socket.

For sealing of the plugs against Bull dust why don't you get some of them rubber safety plug inserts (from baby shops) to cover the plug, then Gaffa tape over the top of it, It wont be pretty but it should work

Now another question. Has anyone seen the stone reflector/shields for sale anywhere?

I know I could make my own but I am pressed for time and would like to buy one of the shadecloth type ready made.

I have looked around on the web for a while and asked at the major caravan shops like Award and Carac and no-one has them.
